An ex-fashion model of the top class at 5'10'' in height, Carey was popular with top American designers such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father was an eminent geoscientist and was recognized as the Scientist from 1979 by Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey was brought up throughout the world because of the work of her father. Following her graduation from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she started to model on the side. The idea caught the attention of an agent at Ford Model Agency New York. She stayed in France briefly, in Paris as well as Bordeaux. After that, she came back in New York for her college study and further to build her modeling career. In between her modeling assignments she was a full time student obtaining a major in literary studies at New York University. In the following years, she developed an desire to act. She attended the Neighborhood Playhouse New York. Her acting debut was as a character with Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Paradise. White water rafting, skis and rock climbing are her favorite activities.
